The Official Blog of Studio J Photography bio picture

Welcome!

So this is my chance to tell you how totally cool I am, but honestly I'm not sure if I can really sum up myself in two or three paragraphs.  Let's start with the basics.

I love the sound that the shutter makes when I take a photograph, especially when there are really cool people on the other side of the lens.

I deny any conversations that take place before my first cup of coffee.

I love a glass of 18-year-old scotch, almost as much as a glass of chocolate milk.

I love making people love how they look in photos. I love to travel and experience new places.

I love that last bit of milk in the bottom of the cereal bowl.

I love life's simple pleasures.  I love life's not so simple pleasures.

I love sushi.  Lots and lots of sushi.

I love movies, especially ones by Tarantino.

I think TV shows on DVD is one of the 20th century's best inventions.

Anh & Tuan’s Day After Session | Memphis Day After Photographer

Anh & Tuan were so much fun. We had a wonderful time, and I always love when people will follow me through an area to do something that seems crazy for the sake of a great photo.

Thanks for trusting me and following me all over the place.

Aubrey & Lars’ Wedding | Memphis Wedding photographer

You’ve seen the sneak peek, now it’s time for the real thing.

Aubrey and Lars were truly amazing to work with on the wedding day. They were such incredible sports and went all around downtown with their bridal party. When we got to the reception at the always beautiful Hunt Phelan, the ladies at Southern Event Planners had made things look genuinely amazing.

There were some really touching toasts and then when the party really started their crowd really let loose.

Thanks for a great way to wrap up the 2009 wedding season.

Myia & Thomas’s Day After | Memphis Wedding Photographer

Myia and Thomas came back to Memphis a couple of months ago to do their Day After shoot with all of the gorgeous fall colors as a backdrop. They were so much fun to work with, and we had a great time going around downtown and playing.

Ok, on to the photos.

New Year and News!

Happy 2010 everyone! Hard to believe we’re here already.

There are a lot of things that will be changing this year. I tried back in the fall to blog 31 days in a row and failed miserably. Well, the silence of the blog has been the quiet before the amazing storm that is the new 31 Days of Blogging.

There are a lot of sessions, a wedding, and other images in store for the next few weeks. So buckle up folks. I can’t wait.

The first thing that I want to tell you is that my Twitter link up top is no more. Sorry to anyone who was constantly checking up on me, but honestly I didn’t update anymore and hated for people to think I fell off the face of the planet. I’m trying to simplify things so that I can be even better at the things I do.

Sneak Peek – Aubrey & Lars

Ok. I’m working hard to get things caught up. In the meantime, just a sneak peek of Aubrey & Lars’s wedding from last weekend.

Page & Joseph’s Wedding | Memphis Wedding Photography

First, let me thank everyone for being patient with me as I am trying to get caught up. The production backlog is kinda crazy at the moment.

On to Page and Joseph. These two are absolutely amazing. Page has a special style all her own, and Joseph is the guy who is happiest when he is with her.

Sometimes, a couple will give you an extra measure of creative license to do things beyond what you’ve tried before. There will be another post later to discuss the rest of that thought, but for now we’ll stay with the wedding day.

Page made all of the incredible details, including the bouquets, and on top of that she helped decorate the reception venue. After a very touching ceremony at Independent Presbyterian, we all headed downtown to the Jay Etkin Gallery. The wonderful Cindy Krag did a phenomenal job with the food, and Tim Bachus kept the party going all night long.

A HUGE thanks to two invaluable people, Lisa and Darius. They really gave me the freedom to do some different stuff, and I couldn’t have done it without them.

Alright, alright, on to the photos…

Katie & Ryan’s Wedding | Memphis Wedding Photography

Several weeks ago, I headed downtown to the lovely Cadre Building for Katie & Ryan’s Wedding. We had a gorgeous day for some photos outside before the ceremony. Then after a beautiful ceremony, the party really got started. If you don’t believe me, check out their photo booth photos in an earlier post.

Special shout outs to Sara Beth Raab of Southern Design Studio, Michael Doyle of Lynn Doyle Flowers, and Amy Miller Weddings; it was great to work with all of you.
